Tong war breaks out on Oxford Place.
October 18, 1928
Three days of fighting between the Hip Sing and the On Leong tongs leaves four people dead and more than 20 injured. Police subsequently erect a “deadline” chain around Chinatown and refuse to let anyone enter the area as they search for what the Boston Herald describes as 10 “out of town gunmen.” Originally social and fraternal organizations, some tongs in the U.S. had subsequently became involved in criminal activities.
